Identification and Background

Bayerische Motoren Werke AG pronunciation (BMW) (English: Bavarian Motor Works) is a German automobile, motorcycle, and engine manufacturing company founded in 1917. It also owns and produces the Mini marque, and is the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. BMW produces motorcycles under BMW Motorrad and Husqvarna brands. BMW is headquartered in Munich, Germany, but produces vehicles around the world. BMW specializes in producing luxury vehicles and motorcycles.

BMW was founded in 1916 as an aircraft engine manufacturer. BMW produced aircraft engines from 1917 to 1918 and again from 1933 to 1945. After the first World War, BMW stayed in business by producing farm equipment, motorcycle engines, railway brakes, and household items. In 1923, the BMW R 32 was the first BMW motorcycle ever produced. BMW became an automaker in 1928 when it purchased Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, which built Austin Stevens under the Dixi brand. In the 1930s, BMW expanded its automobile manufacturing business into sports cars and larger luxury cars.

In 2010, the BMW group produced 1,481,253 automobiles and 112,271 motorcycles across all its brands. In 2015, BMW was the twelfth-largest motor vehicle manufacturer, with 2,279,503 produced. BMW has significant motorsport history, especially in sports cars, Formula 1, touring cars, and the Isle of Man TT.

The BMW emblem is generally located in the center of their vehicle’s front end. The emblem includes the letters “BMW” in a black circle surrounding an inner circle made from two white and two blue triangles with the same-colored shape opposite to each other.
