Background and Identification

Hot tubs, sometimes also known as spas or by the trade name Jacuzzi, are basins of hot water designed for humans to sit or wade in. Hot tubs often have water jets, but some less expensive models just have air shooting jets. Hot tubs are designed to be used by multiple people at a time. They are commonly located both inside and outdoors. Hot tubs can be either in-ground or above-ground. Additionally, they can be made of numerous materials. Possible hot tub materials include stainless steel, cement, acrylic, glasfiber, etc. Hot tubs can also be inflatable or have vinyl-liners.

Repair needs in hot tubs commonly relate to the plumbing or heating mechanism. Hot tub plumbing includes, at minimum, a pressure system, a suction system, and a filtration system. The pressure system delivers water to the jets, the suction system returns water to the pumps, and the filtration system ensures the cleanliness of the hot tub is maintained. Hot tubs are usually heated with either a natural gas or electric heater. However, there are other methods for heating hot tubs, including wood fire hot tub heaters and solar hot water systems.

Hot tubs are identified by an exterior shell that holds hot water. As mentioned, they can either be above-ground or in-ground installations. Hot tubs are commonly located alongside swimming pools but not always.
