How to Remove the Scratches from an Acrylic Watch Face

Introduction

This guide will show you how to remove the scratches from an acrylic watch face. Does a twenty-dollar Casio watch tell the same time as a thirty-five thousand-dollar Patek-Philippe? You probably can't tell the difference if you're anything like me.

Just because your watch is cheap doesn't mean you should throw it away! Use this guide to restore your damaged watch face so it's close to the condition in which you bought it.

Step 1

Examine the damage and identify the boundaries for buffing the face of the watch.
Working with sandpaper can damage other areas of the watch, so understanding your working area will prevent any careless mistakes.

Step 2

Wipe the watch surface with a paper towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
It is important to clean the watch of any surface debris to prevent making new scratches.

Step 3

Use the 1000-grit sandpaper, and gently sand the face of the watch in a circular motion.
This step is to remove any deep scratches.

Step 4

With your fingernail, feel the surface of the watch for any remaining deep scratches.
Keep sanding until you no longer feel scratches.

Step 5

Clean the surface again with a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to prep the watch face for polishing.

Step 6

With the tube of polyWatch, place a small dab of the polishing compound on the face of the watch.

Step 7

With the microfiber cloth, begin working on the face of the watch in a circular motion for at least 2-3 minutes.
Wipe away any excess compound with a clean cloth and examine your results.
