Introduction
If you have a lamp that operates using a foot pedal lamp switch, it is likely that over time, the button connecting to the spring or the spring itself may become worn or damaged. This can result in the switch to no longer function properly. If this is the case, this guide will show you how to fix the issue by replacing the button with a new one, with easy-to-follow illustrated instructions. This guide demonstrates the repair process on an Ikea Hektar Floor Lamp, but the principles will apply to other foot pedal lamp switches as well.
Before using this guide, make sure your device is unplugged and remains unplugged throughout your repair. Additionally, check for any corrosion around the switch, damage along the cord itself, or burnt cables. These issues may require additional instructions.

Unplug the lamp from the power source.

Find a well-lit area to work in and begin your repair.

Flip the lamp switch upside down.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the four 6 mm screws from the bottom of the foot pedal while holding the button cap in place.

Lift the top off of the foot pedal that holds the button in place and put it to the side.

Remove the damaged button from the switch and place it to the side.

Flip the pedal switch upside down.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to replace the four 6 mm screws on the back while holding the switch together.

Inspect the switch for any gaps around the edge.

Press down on the button to make sure you hear and/or feel a click.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
