Welcome! My name is Julia and I’m a sophomore at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and have been studying Aerospace Engineering.

I grew up in love with math and science and have known for a while that I wanted to follow in my fathers footsteps and become and engineer. My dream is to help design, build, test, and fly helicopters. I would also love to fly for the police or Coast Guard and perform search and rescues.

I am excited for what I am going to learn in the process of this project. I have never fixed anything more my own projects but I am eager to learn. This project is not only going to help me learn how to fix something myself, but also how to teach others how to fix things and to work with a group to produce a simple guide for anyone and everyone to follow.

Projects/accomplishments

Hot Air Balloon: In high school, I had the amazing opportunity to take an aerospace class. A few times a year we would take a few weeks and use our hands to make an aircraft. The very first project we did was a hot-air balloon. My partner Ariba and I worked with so much attention to detail and were very careful not to let the frail material rip. At the end of the week, we went to the bottom of the staircase and used a hairdryer on low power to fill the balloons with hot air, when we let ours go, it went up and hit the ceiling two floors up. No one else was able to get theirs to the top.

Ball Launcher(pictured left): My freshman year at Embry-Riddle, I was given a group and a task to build a device that would launch a tennis ball repeatedly that a dog could refill on his own with only minimal training and we were also given a budget we had to follow. There were many more specifications and we had to meet with our Professor as if they were our client. It was a great example of how projects could go in the real world and how to work with a team to create the best possible product we could.

Hobbies

  • In my spare time, I am working on getting my Private Helicopter License.
  • I also love to read book full of action and adventure. Anything with spies or crimes are my favorite things to read. I grew up reading Alex Rider, a young James Bond without all the drinking and girls.
  • I’m also nowhere near being a professional, but I love taking pictures. When me and some friends have some spare time, we will go out and I’ll take my camera and we will have a mini photo-shoot.
