School and Major
Greetings! My name is Isabel Alcocer, and I am currently a senior at California State University, Bakersfield. I am studying to obtain my bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in Marketing. Furthermore, I graduated from Bakersfield College in 2021 with an associate of Arts and Business Administration. I hope to utilize the knowledge I gained while attending Bakersfield College by not only obtaining a career in business but also incorporating art within my work.
Interests and Aspirations
As a child, I was always inspired to create. Whether it was creating sewing or drawing, I enjoyed using my imagination to create something new. As an adult, I aspire to work as a creative director in marketing for the fashion industry. I would like to work in the fashion industry because I simply love learning about everything fashion-related. I love the background work that goes into producing a garment and enjoy styling outfits together as well.
Skills
Additionally, I have skills in retail and customer service. For four years, I worked as a cashier and inventory stocker. Through my varied experiences in retail, I have grown to appreciate the business side of fashion.
Hobbies
My hobbies include sewing and drawing. I learned how to draw and sew on my own when I was in middle school. Recently, I have been trying to sew original designs I have digitally created.
How Does this Project Relate?
My hobbies relate to my project because I will be using my skills in sewing to repair the loose elastics on a mask. Although it seems like an easy fix, it does require knowledge of sewing different types of sewing stitches.
Repair Experience
I have experience in replacing a broken Lenovo ThinkPad Laptop fan. It was an easy fix, and I really enjoyed the process of following a guide. It also helped me gain confidence when fixing electronics.
Projects/Accomplishments
I have a few projects that I am working on. One project involves learning how to fix a zipper on a boot. The project is more involved because I have never worked with shoewear. My biggest accomplishment was when I learned how to create an adult-sized apron from fabric scraps. It was a big accomplishment because it was the first garment I sewed on my sewing machine.
Accolades/Memberships
I have not received any accolades just yet. However, I am working hard as the president of the Marketing Club at California State University Bakersfield and hope that experience leads to gaining a few accolades. My responsibilities as president of the Marketing club include scheduling meetings, club registration, and aiding fellow students during their career journey. I really enjoy being a member of the Marketing club because I have met many people and have developed my skills further as a marketer.
Fun Facts
Fun facts about me are that I still have a baby tooth that never developed into an adult tooth. I learned from my dentist that many adults can remain with their baby teeth up until their 70s!
