1

I have asked for help about OutOfMemoryError problem in my android app before. Since I have not had a solution yet i need to ask you again to advice me a solution. I tested my app in several real android devices. But in Samsung Galaxy S3 android 4.0.4 I have OutOfMemoryError problem. Logcat messages are below. Thank you.

    obviously you are trying to create a too large bitmap. can you post the exact source code where your app crashes? – Ovidiu Latcu Jul 13 '12 at 07:55

    Android apps are limited to a relatively small heap. Large bitmaps require a lot of memory - essentially a byte array of width * height * colour-depth. Describe more about what you are doing and paste some code - depending on what you are doing you might be able to solve this problem by loading the bitmap at a smaller scale or lower colour depth or ... – Stevie Jul 13 '12 at 07:56

  • When you are finished using some objects or variables, just make sure you don't reefer to them so that the garbage-collector can throw them away and give back some memory, are u using unnecessary large graphic images? – najk Jul 13 '12 at 07:54

Use below method to reduce the size of the image. You are getting OutOfMemory error because of large image size.

  • what does calculateInSampleSize(options, reqWidth, reqHeight) return to options.inSampleSize? in my code when i set 2 to options.inSampleSize app works fine.. but my images were smaller then what i need – Emilla Jul 13 '12 at 09:09

For some reason there's not enough memory for you to create a Bitmap. You can wrap your Bitmap creation into try { ... } catch(OutOfMemoryError) {}

In the catch block or elsewhere you may want to scale your bitmap down, maybe then it gets created something like 

bmp = Bitmap.createBitmap(bmp, bmp.getWidth()/2, bmp.getheight()/2, true)
