How to do a SOAP wsdl web services call from the command line

Question

I need to make a SOAP webservice call to https://sandbox.mediamind.com/Eyeblaster.MediaMind.API/V2/AuthenticationService.svc?wsdl and to use the operation ClientLogin while passing through the parameters: ApplicationKey, Password, and UserName. The response is UserSecurityToken. They are all strings.

How can I do this on the command line? (Windows and/or Linux would be helpful)

It's a standard, ordinary SOAP web service. SSH has nothing to do here. I just called it with curl (one-liner):

$ curl -X POST -H "Content-Type: text/xml" \
    -H 'SOAPAction: "http://api.eyeblaster.com/IAuthenticationService/ClientLogin"' \
    --data-binary @request.xml \
    https://sandbox.mediamind.com/Eyeblaster.MediaMind.API/V2/AuthenticationService.svc

Where request.xml file has the following contents:

Which version of curl are you using? Mine says "Couldn't resolve host '--data-binary', and that https is an "Unsupported protocol". – Marina Sep 04 '12 at 01:26
If I do exactly what you did, then I always get an error from mediamind that says that "An unexpected internal server error has occurred." Is there any thing that you did not include in the answer that I should be doing (besides for replacing the un/pw/key with the real ones)? – Marina Sep 04 '12 at 01:42
@Marina: now I get "*500 Internal Server Error*" as well. However this is a server-side error, not ours (?), ask the WS provider what's happening. It was working few days ago. – Tomasz Nurkiewicz Sep 04 '12 at 07:28
Thanks for your answer. There is a missing /Envelope in request.xml, causing an error response from the server. Once I added that it worked fine. Maybe that's the issue for other folks getting errors. – apadana Oct 28 '14 at 23:48

This worked perfectly for me. I just had to use: `"Content-Type: application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8"` instead of `"Content-Type: text/xml"`. – AnonymousAngelo Jun 10 '20 at 13:08

On linux command line, you can simply execute:
