  • You are mixing different versions of spring jars, check your dependencies (`mvn dependency:tree`) and fix that. Unrelated but will become problematic, you are loading your `sdnext-servlet.xml` twice once by the `ContextLoaderListener` and once by the `DispatcherServlet`. Only the latter should load it. – M. • I don't use mvn here (just import the jars into my project). I update the question to include the list of jars I have now. is there any any to fix this dependency problem without the **mvn dependency:tree** command? – Kleber Mota Mar 14 '14 at 11:42

you get 404 (not found) because your application was not loaded.

in its initialization, you got errors, so the app is not running correctly. have a look at the exceptions you got there.

What causes java.lang.IncompatibleClassChangeError?

Add this to your web.xml

<welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>
        index.jsp
    </welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>

add a new index.jsp page in your webapp folder. there in one already in views

in that jsp redirect as follow

<c:redirect url="/index"/>

import this

<%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %>

or use javascript to redirect as

$(document).ready(function(e){
   window.location.href ="whatever";
})

  • than you have different problrm rather than rendering. Configuration in wrong somewhere in xml. show your xml and ask different question. But solution to your previous problem was this only – kushal jain Mar 14 '14 at 11:17

The message comes from mixing versions of Spring 3.2 and < 3.2. In Spring the ASM classes have been inlined in newer versions, next to that it includes a newer version of ASM.

Looking at your list of jars you are mixing 5 different versions (3.2.8, 3.2.4, 3.2.1, 3.1.4, 3.0.7) of spring. Now that is trouble waiting to happen. For starters remove the spring-asm jar as that doesn't exist anymore as of Spring 3.2. Upgrade all other dependencies to 3.2.8.

I don't use mvn here (just import the jars into my project).

I strongly advice you to start using something like Maven or Gradle to manage your dependencies, it will save you a lot of time searching for dependencies on the internet and trying to figure out which jar version works with another version. In current times you shouldn't be searching for dependencies yourself.

  • The problem is despite I didn't use maven in the project, I use it to download the JARs using the XML available in the site of spring (each project's page have a little snippet of xml code). this should download the correct version, am I right? – Kleber Mota Mar 14 '14 at 12:15
  • If they mix versions they don't... As stated you are mixing 5 different versions that isn't going to work. I strongly advice you to use maven or gradle in yuor project that saves you a lot of headaches. – M. Deinum Mar 14 '14 at 12:36
