I used the following command to generate the project:

$ mvn archetype:generate

The error presented during build failure is:

  • possible duplicate of [maven archetype:generate failure caused by org.apache.maven.plugin.MojoFailureException](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11164370/maven-archetypegenerate-failure-caused-by-org-apache-maven-plugin-mojofailureex) – Joe Nov 05 '14 at 13:33
  • Take advantage of the debugging info by running Maven with the -X switch. It can produce a lot of output, but often it makes it immediately obvious what the problem is. – Brando_Calrissian Nov 05 '14 at 13:37

Check the file permissions on the target folder where the project will be generated. Make sure the user has permission to read and write.
