Jhipster - MySQL java.sql.SQLException: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

Question

I am trying to create a project via JHipster and deploy it to Openshif. Everything seems normal, but when running mvn spring-boot:run or from the IDE, there is no connection to MySQL database.

The error is:

I configured SQL connection within IntelliJ IDE, so the issue is not there. I had also generated two Entities with 1-1 relation (the owner of realtion was generated secondly as was proposed by jhipster).

When I deployed a project to Openshift, it gave me the starting page etc, but in the "Entity" menu from the app - no entities were displayed at all, the menu was blank. So, I assume the issue is somewhere in the project itself or maybe its preferences. Any ideas what should I do to fix this error?

Setting password to '' is not a secure practice. JHipster generated app requires mysql password in a couple of places. If you set this correctly, the app can connect to the db using the password.

1. pom.xml (Maven) or liquibase.gradle (Gradle) for liquibase plugin
2. In application-dev.yml and application-prod.yml in src/main/resources/config folder.

i modified the application-prod.yml and set up the connection string of the mysql in that way: url: jdbc:mysql://127.0.0.1:3306/databasename?user=root&password=rootpassword&useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf8

and works ok

There was nothing wrong with jhipster, only with MySQL settings.

I used this command to remove root password:

   SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost=PASSWORD('');

So, it's solved

I changed the username from root to any other name and grant the table permissions to the same user and worked correctly.

If you open the Spring Boot configuration for the profile, for instance /src/main/resources/config/application-prod.xml for production, there's a section that looks like this:

You can insert the password after password:. I'd recommend creating a new user and giving it permissions only to the necessary database, and inserting its username (instead of root) and password in the above so it would look something like this:

I faced in front the same issue. I just used the same database's credentials into pom.xml and application-prod.yml and application-dev.yml.

Showed that I had a mysql container which was 3 months old.

1. Change password
2. Upgrade your mysql version

2) To solve the problem MySQL version in the mysql.yml had to be incremented. Solved the problem! docker rm old_mysql_contriner_id did not help before.
