I set the overlay as follows:

<item name="android:windowActionBarOverlay">true</item>

I have android:paddingTop="?attr/actionBarSize", how do do I double it?

android:paddingTop="2*?attr/actionBarSize" wouldn't work

You need to do double android:paddingTop="2*?attr/actionBarSize"
