I just started with MongoDB on Windows 7. I can connect to port 27017, but I'm not getting the "admin web console waiting for connections on port 28017" message, so when I visit http://localhost:28017/, nothing appears.

I get the following messages in the console:

My mongod.cfg file looks like this:

logpath=c:\data\log\mongod.log
dbpath=c:\data\db

Mongodb (mongod instance) runs at default port of 27017.

If you want to start instance at 28017. Go to bin folder where your binary files are present open command prompt like this and type C:\Program Files\MongoDB 2.6 Standard\bin>mongod --port 28017

Make sure no other process is running at your specified port number.

If you want to use your mongod.cfg file for controlling your port use the following:

# set the port number below
port = 8080
dbpath = c:/data/db
logpath = c:/data/log/mongod.log
logappend = yes

Please note though that the port you assign needs to be accessible and not in use or blocked by your firewall

Also make sure that if you are running this as a Windows Service that you need to stop it. Most probably with:

net stop MongoDB

then make the change to the file and restart the service

net start MongoDB
