C Programming: Weird characters in char output

Question

I'm doing a TCP socket programming in C (Client & Server).

I'm experiencing some problem with my outputs.

As you have noticed, there's a lot of this ╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠╠ character and I have not much clue on why it happens.

The correct output should just be "10 [NEWLINE] THATS IT" without the garbage text in between

'puts(server_reply);' calling puts() on a string that is not guaranteed null-terminated; even if you fix your code so that the server sends a null-terminated string, there is no guarantee that the client recv() will receive it in full with one call. There are two problems in your code:

Server does not send null terminator - your code passes strlen(temp) to write(client_sock, ...), meaning that null terminator would not be sent to the client. You need to use strlen(temp)+1 instead.
Client code uses strlen - instead of strlen(server_reply) you should use sizeof(server_reply)

Another alternative to having the server send you '\0' is to null-terminate the string that you receive yourself, like this:

This would make the client more robust, avoid undefined behavior in situations when the server sends invalid replies.

@dasblinkenlight In the server side (LINUX) i have implemented the first solution you provided. The client side (WINDOWS) doesn't have `unistd.h` so I'm not sure where to fit the second part of your solution. – python1010101 Feb 06 '16 at 12:45
