Can anyone help? I am trying to change the colour of the app bar. I am using a basic activity and following advice from the top answer found here. Using Android 7 API 24 if that is any help.

  • This one is to easy to do. Just check [link](https://developer.android.com/training/appbar/setting-up.html). And I truly encourage you to use an `appBar` from `Support library`. – Bob Oct 22 '16 at 14:50

Change your AndroidManifest.xml file to below

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.example.james.task02b">

<application
    android:allowBackup="true"
    android:icon="@mipmap/ic_launcher"
    android:label="@string/app_name"
    android:supportsRtl="true"
    android:theme="@style/MyTheme">
    <activity
        android:name=".MainActivity"
        android:label="@string/app_name">
        <intent-filter>
            <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />

            <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
        </intent-filter>
    </activity>
</application>

</manifest>

and then change your activity to:

 public class MainActivity extends Activity {

        @Override
        protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
            super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
            setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        }
