i had permgen space error, after searching about solving the problem i added setenv.bat file and added this code in it to increase permgen space

set JAVA_OPTS=-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Xms128m -Xmx1024m -XX:PermSize=64m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m

but now tomcat does not run and i get this error:

  • See if the port 730048 is being used. – titogeo Nov 15 '16 at 07:06
  • Can you add your server.xml code here. – Umais Gillani Nov 15 '16 at 07:08
  • port 730048 is not used @titogeo – armin momeni Nov 15 '16 at 07:21
  • added @UmaisGillani – armin momeni Nov 15 '16 at 07:25
  • Did you tried after rebooting your system ? may be rebooting will fix the issue as [mentioned here](http://www.javaxp.com/2013/02/javalangexception-socket-bind-failed.html) – Umais Gillani Nov 15 '16 at 07:34
  • yeah, didn't help @UmaisGillani – armin momeni Nov 15 '16 at 07:48

The problem depicts that 8009 is being used by other process as well. try to check if other java processes are running in Task Manager kill them all and run tomcat again. or change this port to other port and then try. – Umais Gillani Nov 15 '16 at 07:55
  • Possible duplicate of [Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted while tomcat start?](http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21299942/only-one-usage-of-each-socket-address-protocol-network-address-port-is-normall) – Jozef Chocholacek Nov 15 '16 at 07:58
  • @JozefChocholacek It might be a dupe, but the accepted answer in your linked question is totally wrong. – Christopher Schultz Nov 15 '16 at 14:58
  • Run `netstat` to see what is currently bound to port 8009. I believe the incantation on Windows is `netstat -a -o | find "8009"`. This will show the pid of the program bound to port 8009. Find it in the task manager and figure out why it's binding to port 8009. This often happens when Tomcat is already running and you try to launch it again. – Christopher Schultz Nov 15 '16 at 15:02
  • @ChristopherSchultz the problem was intellij Idea, i closed that and now there is no error ,tnx – armin momeni Nov 23 '16 at 12:15
