When I tried to Associate my app with the Windows Store, Visual Studio 2015(Update 3) crashes.

VS2015 crash

Solution tried,

  1. Run as Administrator - No use.

  2. Repair in Program and Features - No use.

  3. .NET Framework Repair Tool - No use.

  4. Running devenv /Resetsettings in CMD - No use.

  5. Running devenv /Safemode in CMD - If is open in safe mode I can't use associate my app with the store feature, so No use.

  6. Tried to use "Create App Packages" instead of "Associate App with the store" - Still Crashes.

Please help.

  • Configure WER (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb787181%28VS.85%29.aspx) to generate a full crash dump (DumpType must be set to 2), open the dmp in windbg, setup the symbols (http://stackoverflow.com/a/30019890/1466046) and run **!analyze -v** and look if you can see anything useful – magicandre1981 Jan 20 '17 at 16:15

In the enumerator Microsoft.VisualStudio.AppxPackage.PickProductViewModel+<ReserveProductNameAsync>d__103.MoveNext()+0x77.

I also see that you get Microsoft.VisualStudio.AppxPackage.PickProductException with this message:

Your Microsoft account is not registered to submit apps to the Store. To register or check your registration, go to the Windows Store web site.

Microsoft.VisualStudio.AppxPackage.PickProductViewModel+<SignIntoStoreAsync>d__80.MoveNext()
   System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.ThrowForNonSuccess(System.Threading.Tasks.Task)
   System.Runtime.CompilerServices.TaskAwaiter.HandleNonSuccessAndDebuggerNotification(System.Threading.Tasks.Task)
   Microsoft.VisualStudio.AppxPackage.PickProductViewModel+<SetSelectedAccount>d__88.MoveNext()

So, make sure your Microsoft Account is registered to submit apps to the store.

  • My bank account doesn't support international transactions. The problem wouldn't be resolved unless I create a new bank account. It would take me some time to create one, so until then I can't verify if the solution works or not. If it works I would be sure to mark the solution as the answer. Thanks a lot for your effort. – Vijay Nirmal Jan 27 '17 at 18:16

If you have trouble to open support ticket due to payment issue, I'd recommend you to send feedback from Visual Studio.

To send feedback click the button as per first screenshot below

enter image description here

Report a Problem->Create a New issue->Provide details in the next screen and make sure that you expands the "Record your actions" and "Start Recording" – second screenshot below.

  • I sent Feedback without Recording because after completing recording it open a dialog box says "we were trying to display the visual studio feedback dialog but a modal dialog is blocking us. Dismiss any modal dialogs in visual Studio before retrying." – Vijay Nirmal Jan 25 '17 at 09:44
  • @Vijay Nirmal, no worries, the Feedback is not necessary at this point. We have been able to reproduce the problem/ bug and are investigating the Visual Studio crash. However, please make sure that you associate your Microsoft account with the Store after which you should be able to Reserve an app name. Sorry about the experience. – Prashant H Phadke - MSFT Feb 02 '17 at 19:57
  • @PrashantHPhadke-MSFT I hope they will display an error message instead of crashing. – Vijay Nirmal Feb 04 '17 at 06:56

I had the same problem with Visual Studio 2015 (VS crash after trying to reserve the app name).

So I opened my project in Visual Studio 2017 I would get the proper error message:

The store blocked this account. Ensure the account has permission to read reserved app names and that it is linked to a valid Developer subscription.
