How to record audio on Raspberry Pi 3 with Python code

Question

I am having a sound recording issue. My setup:

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B v1.2
Logitech C920 webcam on USB port (it works properly).
Ubuntu 16.04 Mate

All code is in Python. I have version 2.7 and 3.5 installed. pyaudio, portaudio, scipy, numpy packages are all installed. I can take a picture with the webcam using pygame. I can record sound with the webcam with the rec test.wav command.

I cannot figure out why pyaudio is looking for cards.bcm2835.pcm.front.0:CARD=0. The .asoundrc file is set to Card 1, device 0.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I cannot record sound through any python code (Snowboy or my own). I CAN record sound with the command "rec". — learningtofly, Jan 28 '17 at 14:12
"I cannot record sound" is extremely vague. You problem is not at all clear from your description. In the end of your console output listing is the line `Listening... Press Ctrl+C to exit`, there is no further error message. Did you press `Ctrl+C`? What is the given command even supposed to do? Probably you should provide some code? — Matthias, Jan 29 '17 at 09:40
