I am using Python 2.7.12 in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I tried installing pyaudio and pygsr by using commands

sudo pip install -U pyaudio
sudo pip install -U pygsr

and I got the output (error) as below:

Well, I solved the problem by using the package manager,

 $ sudo apt-get install python-pyaudio

Although still has no clue why easy_install fails.

I solved this by using the following commands on ubuntu 16.04. Tested on python 3.7 and 3.5

sudo apt install portaudio19-dev python-pyaudio
pip install PyAudio
  • Thanks! It worked with `sudo apt install portaudio19-dev python3-pyaudio` on Ubuntu 20.04 – elbe Oct 27 '21 at 14:50
