I have written a small test program that uses boost::asio::ip::tcp::iostream
to transmit about 38 MiB of data:

The output of the program in release mode looks like this:

It took 148 seconds (more than 2 minutes) to transfer 38 MB. I could copy the data to a USB stick and hand it over manually faster than boost::asio
does.
Is there any way to improve bandwidth performance?
