I'm really new to react-native and I've just finished an android app using Google Maps API. The map worked fine as I developed it and worked fine after I generated the release APK (I got a new restricted Google maps API key). I then ran the app on my physical device using --varient=release and, again the map worked perfectly well. I then published the app to the Play Store and after downloading the app from there the map is blank except for the Google logo in the corner. Any help on this would be appreciated, I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer that has worked. Not sure which code would be best to put here so I'll put the build.gradle and the AndroidManifest.xml for now unless anyone wants to see more. (API key blanked at the end)

  • It's most definitely something involved with your release API key. I had experienced this about a year ago on a native Android app done completely in Java. Sorry I don't have the answer for you but I would most definitely double check you followed the process for a Google Maps key. – MattyK14 Aug 17 '17 at 19:42

    Thanks MattyK14 you were completely right. It was my API key. It turned out the method I was using to get my SHA1 was wrong. I found the right SHA1 on my Play Dashboard under Release Management > App Signing. All working now. Thanks again! – Robin Wilkie Aug 18 '17 at 07:28
