SpringBoot failing to run

Question

I ran maven correctly but when I run the main class I get an error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problem: SpringApplication cannot be resolved

I know it might be obvious, but is the SpringApplication class imported? Are you using any IDE, is it not suggesting any other problems? — Jan Siekierski, Sep 07 '17 at 11:05

I think that you have to point to a parent POM where dependencies are stored:

<parent>
    <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
    <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-parent</artifactId>
    <version>1.5.6.RELEASE</version>
</parent>

Fix your pom as it is malformed. Here is a working one generated from start.spring.io

Or If you are using IDE like intelliJ idea or Eclipse make sure to re import the project. Here is an answer how to refresh maven dependencies in eclipse

Optionaly if you want to build from terminal.Try running the following command in console

    mvn spring-boot:run
```
