I'm new to Test Automation and Selenium WebDriver.

I'm trying to automate the validation system for a private website.

The goal is to automate the order management system, which allows the owner to confirm several orders that he got the previous days.

TestAutomation is needed because he has to confirm 700/800 order every 2/3 days.

Basically what he does(and what I'm trying to automate) is this, explained by the following points:

1) He log-in to the system with his credentials

2) Once he's in the secure area, he has a search TextBox where he types the name of a customer, he confirm it with the enter button and he's redirected to the customer detail page.

3) Here, in order to confirm the order, he clicks on an image(that represents a scan of the invoice) and confirm the yes button on the alert that appears.

What I did was creating a txt file with 800 lines, representing the 800 customer, and loop through them when researching their orders and confirming by clicking the image.

My issue is that sometimes my ChromeDriver doesn't click on the image, even if it is visible, and I get the following RunTime error:

This is how I've handle the Image click.

try {
    WebElement invoiceImage = wait.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.xpath("//*[@id='react-root']/section/main/article/div[2]/div/div[1]/div[1]")));
    Thread.sleep(400);
    invoiceImage.click();
}
catch(org.openqa.selenium.StaleElementReferenceException ex)
{
    WebElement invoiceImage = wait.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.xpath("//*[@id='react-root']/section/main/article/div[2]/div/div[1]/div[1]")));
    Thread.sleep(400);
    invoiceImage.click();
}

The Runtime Error occurs randomly actually, sometimes I get it after 10 images clicked correctly, other times after 40, sometimes even after only 1.

Any idea about the resolution?

  • Try to add some more wait before clicking event – Ankur Singh Dec 31 '17 at 21:24
  • I had it originally at 2500 ms, but it fails after 40 clicks @AnkurSingh . I mean, if this is the only solution I can increase it to 5000, or 10000, but I would like to do it in a smarter way – user9159143 Dec 31 '17 at 21:25
  • unk nown error: Element
    ...
    is not clickable at point (353, 495). Other element would receive the click:
    the error what u have show saying that it click on some other divsion over your image link. so add wait of ~5000ms
    – Ankur Singh Dec 31 '17 at 21:29
  • @AnkurSingh Thank you my friend, by using ~5000ms it doesn't fail! But there isn't a way to wait only the necessary time. I mean, sometimes the picture load immediatly but I have to wait 5000. Something like a smartWait, not the Thread.sleep() – user9159143 Dec 31 '17 at 22:32
  • @user9159143 can you provide url ? So by seeing context may we can decide smart wait . – Ankur Singh Jan 01 '18 at 05:58
  • Unfortunately I cannot share the access to the site @AnkurSingh – user9159143 Jan 01 '18 at 09:12

You used chromedriver 2.30 from the error stack said

(Session info: chrome=63.0.3239.84)
(Driver info: chromedriver=2.30.477700

not clickable at point is a know issue on chromedriver 2.30 described in below link, update your chromedriver to 2.33 or latest should fix your issue.

https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromedriver/issues/detail?id=1852
