Passing primitive types to JAX RS POST

Question

I am making a RESTful api using JAX RS.

I'm aware that you can make a class that will represent the JSON request that would be send by the api client and make the POST method use an instance of that class like this:

public class SomeEntity {
   private name;
   private description;
.
. getters and setters
.
}

And, you make you web service like this:

@POST
    @Produces("application/json")
    @Consumes("application/json")
    public Response doSomething (SomeEntity entity) {
        return FacadeUtils.buildResponse(buildDoSomethingResp(entity));
    }

However, what if I have just one argument in that object that I need to pass as the input from the api client. For example, I tried this:

@POST
        @Produces("application/json")
        @Consumes("application/json")
        public Response doSomething (long authId) {
            return FacadeUtils.buildResponse(buildDoSomethingResp(authId));

But, I get: RESTEASY003020: Bad arguments passed to org.jboss.resteasy.spi.metadata.ResourceMethod@72e02d28 ( null ) as a response.

I know I can wrap the request in an Java object containing just one value that I need. But, is there a simpler way to do this. By using some annotation or something like that? Or, should I pass the single value as a path parameter instead?

You may want to look into @QueryParam.

This would give you something like:

@POST
    @Produces("application/json")
    @Consumes("application/json")
    public Response doSomething (@QueryParam("authId") long authId) {
        return FacadeUtils.buildResponse(buildDoSomethingResp(authId));

Hi. I know about the QueryParam and PathParam, but what if don't want to pass the value in the URL, but in the body instead – user3362334 May 27 '19 at 10:19

I passed by this problem too, but in my case, it was the wrong import.

I needed a java.util.Date but imported java.sql.Date.
