I have a valid signed client-side certificate(in pfx format). First I created my own keystore file in jks format with the below command.

keytool -importkeystore -srckeystore certpath/mypfxfile.pfx -srcstoretype pkcs12 -destkeystore certpath/clientcert.jks -deststoretype JKS

After creating our own keystore file I created my own truststore file with root and intermediate certificates of server with below command.

keytool -import -alias root -file certpath/root.cer -keystore certpath/truststore
keytool -import -alias inter -file certpath/intermediate.cer -keystore certpath/truststore

After doing this I added the below parameters as java options to catalina.sh

-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore= certpath/truststore -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword=pass -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore= certpath/clientcert.jks -Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=pass

But when I call my wsdl endpoint I got the below exception

http-nio-8388-exec-3, handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target
javax.xml.ws.WebServiceException: Failed to access the WSDL at: https://domain/portal/ws?wsdl. It failed with:
sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target.

I check my truststore and keysotre to validate that my certificate is in. All certificate is correct. But when I use wsimport command for testing with using the same keystore and truststore I don't get any error

wsimport -keep -verbose -Xnocompile -J-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore= certpath/truststore -J-Djavax.net.ssl.keyStore=certpath/clientcert.jks -J-Djavax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword=pass -J-Djavax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword=pass https://domain/portal/ws?wsdl

When I run the above command everything works normally.

How I can solve this issue?

About version of used programs tomcat - 8.0.39 java - 1.8.0_65

UPDATE
I did all of them wrote on this link but none of them solved my problem. I have two environments one of them for development and the other one is for production. Both environments have the same configuration. And I use the same certificate for both environments. On the production everything is ok but on development I got this error.

UPDATE The problem solved after our system administrator add the given certificate to OS. I don't know why this is the problem but this solution solved our problem

  • Your organization has a proxy with a self signed certificate. You need to import that certificate. Or get a real certificate for your proxy. – Elliott Frisch Feb 12 '19 at 17:35
  • As i wrote when i try with wsimport command everything works. I dont think that the problem is releated with proxy – sancho Feb 12 '19 at 18:53
  • @sakit where are your keystore and truststore file located? – mkhayata Feb 14 '19 at 00:43
  • @mkhayata does it matter? I showed the full path when setting the property. But you right I forgot to wrote the path on the question – sancho Feb 14 '19 at 03:10
  • @sakit now can you confirm the system properties are indeed set by calling `System.getProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore")` and confirm the same for the other properties in your code. – mkhayata Feb 14 '19 at 12:58
  • @mkhayata I did it. Properties were loaded correctly. – sancho Feb 14 '19 at 13:55
