I am creating an app using react-native and react-native-map. Below are the versions of packages

This is currently a known issue. It is always worth checking the dependency's repo to see if an issue exists.

According to this answer in the thread

If you guys prefer to locking to a specific commit you can use the current one:

If you update your package.json so that react-native-maps looks like this and re-run npm install (after deleting your node_modules) it should resolve the issue.

"react-native-maps": "https://github.com/react-native-community/react-native-maps.git#c102c36d895cbef8b6a8deefd4c58fb0dc17638e",

If it doesn't then you will have to wait for the next release to come out.

According to one of the answers on the thread you may also need to follow the solutions from this SO question.

Where you either update google-play-services to version 16.1.0 or add

<uses-library
      android:name="org.apache.http.legacy"
      android:required="false" />

inside the application tags of your AndroidManifest.xml.

As I said, if using the master from the repo doesn’t work you’ll have to wait for the new release or you should post your issue on that thread. You could also create a project using the previous working version of react-native. Use `react-native init newproject --version react-native@0.58.6` and that should get around the problem, then you can upgrade once the issue is fixed – Andrew Mar 16 '19 at 00:32

I was able to get through by installing a specific version (i.e. npm i react-native-maps@0.27.1). Worked like a charm.

The following is what my root build.gradle looks like.

        compileSdkVersion = 28
        targetSdkVersion = 28
        supportLibVersion = "28.0.0"
        playServicesVersion = "17.0.0"
