I came across this question about transform: translate3d(0,0,0)
or transform: translateZ(0)
, and how they serve to enable CSS3 hardware acceleration for animations on some/most platforms and browsers, especially if used in conjunction with -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden
and -webkit-perspective: 1000
.
However, these questions formed in my mind as I am reading about the topic:
- How do I benchmark whether adding the
transform: translate3d(0,0,0)
actually makes animations smoother on my machine? Or is it just a perception thing? - Where should I add the
transform: translate3d(0,0,0)
CSS for it to be as effective as possible? To thebody
element, or is that slower than exclusively marking the animated element with the transformation?
I will be able to answer the second question myself if the first question is answered. So how would I go about benchmarking animation smoothness?
