I am looking to create the Spring Batch Metadata table on the same MySQL Host, but using different schema. I want to create application specific tables on Test schema and Metadata tables on batchmetadata schema.

Error:

I went through links like below - Spring-batch metadata tables in different schema and Spring batch tables in a different schema, but still code is generating the Spring Batch Metadata tables on Test schema.

Spring will create metadata tables by default in schema which you have provided in spring.datasource.url. You need to configure batchmetadata in spring.datasource.* properties. You can have other custom properties to create separate datasource. You can use that datasource for your main logic.

For example, add below properties in your application.properties:

spring.datasource.test.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/test
spring.datasource.test.username=root
spring.datasource.test.password=root
spring.datasource.driver-class-name=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

Create datasource in your configuration class like below:

    @Value("${spring.datasource.driver-class-name}")
    private String driverClass;

    @Value("${spring.datasource.test.url}")
    private String url;

    @Value("${spring.datasource.test.username}")
    private String userName;

    @Value("${spring.datasource.test.password}")
    private String pass;

    HikariConfig config = new HikariConfig();

    config.setDriverClassName(driverClass);
    config.setJdbcUrl(url);

  • Yes, you have implemented it correctly. But your primary `datasource` should be `batchmetadata`. Because `spring.datasource.*` properties are used by spring framework internally. So whatever credential you specify in those properties the default tables will get created in that schema. – Saurabh Dec 31 '19 at 15:42
  • can you remove `spring.batch.table-prefix=batchmetadata.BATCH_` property and try again and yes I hope you have changed URL in `spring.datasource.url`. – Saurabh Dec 31 '19 at 15:52
  • You have not updated properties as I can see on https://github.com/javaHelper/spring-boot-tutorials-final/blob/master/spring-batch-metadata-in-diff-schema/src/main/resources/application.properties – Saurabh Dec 31 '19 at 15:55
  • set `spring.datasource.url=dbc:mysql://localhost:3306/batchmetadata` and `spring.hello.datasource.url=dbc:mysql://localhost:3306/test` – Saurabh Dec 31 '19 at 15:55

  • @PAA note that you have updated the "new errors", but you got the same error: java.sql.SQLSyntaxErrorException: Table 'batchmetadata.batch_job_instance' doesn't exist – OhadR Dec 31 '19 at 20:16
  • @Saurabh - Could you please guide me here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/62465107/unable-to-configure-two-datasources-in-spring-batch-and-unable-to-create-spring ? – PAA Jun 19 '20 at 08:25

Batch auto create table works for primary schema defined. In your case it is

@Bean(name="secondaryDS")
@Primary
@ConfigurationProperties(prefix="spring.datasource")

So it is creating the tables under TEST schema. If you want the batch tables in another schema then create it manually yourself or make other schema as primary and once the tables are created you can change it.

  • Its not working. I have kept source here: https://github.com/javaHelper/spring-boot-tutorials-final/tree/master/spring-batch-metadata-in-diff-schema. Would you like to give try ? – PAA Dec 31 '19 at 19:41

Thanks Sushil for guidance. I was able to solve the issue by following link: Multiple data source and schema creation in Spring Boot.

spring.jpa.hibernate.ddl-auto=create has stopped working, not because you have two DataSources, but because your application's creating its own LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBeans. This has the effect of disabling the auto-configuration of a LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean so you now have to configure it yourself.

test schema - Want to used for application specific usage.

batchmetadata schema - Want to used for Spring Batch Metadata tables

So, simply configure below bean along with @PrimaryDS and @SecondaryDS.

@Bean(name = "primaryEntityManagerFactory")
    public LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean primaryEntityManagerFactory( EntityManagerFactoryBuilder builder) {
        Map<String, Object> properties = new HashMap<String, Object>();
        properties.put("hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto", "update");
        return builder
                .dataSource(getSeconadaryBatchDataSource())
                .packages("com.example.model")
                .persistenceUnit("default")
                .properties(properties)
                .build();
    }

Here you go !!
