Building on this thread and this thread, we would like to load data from HFM (Hyperion Financial Management) into powerbi. Since there is no connector available nor does it seem possible to build a custom one using Power Query SDK and HFM java API's, we are trying to think outside the box as a last option here. Is it possible to somehow utilize MDX query to load data from Oracle HFM into PowerBI?

  • Have you tried to use ODBC connector? – RADO Jan 29 '20 at 01:04
  • @RADO yes. But maybe we were using it incorrectly? Could you elaborate please? – Cataster Jan 29 '20 at 06:53
  • I have not worked with HFM, just accidentally read a discussion how to connect to Essbase using ODBC. The discussion pointed here: http://hypolap.blogspot.com/2011/06/creating-odbc-driver.html. Also, as far as I know last year Microsoft released an updated PBI connector to Essbase, which can run MDX queries - have you tried it? https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/power-bi-desktop-may-2019-feature-summary/ – RADO Jan 29 '20 at 13:27
  • @RADO checked with my manager he said that doesnt work with ODBC apparently – Cataster Jan 29 '20 at 15:39
