I'm not much of a coder so explain like im 17, I'm working on this script for a charity

I'm trying to use a script that detects if a user is mobile and changes the HREF of an element to a mobile friendly one, however it is not working.

I'm using JS because updating the css breaks other elements and in theory this should work.

I'm open to non-css alternatives.

I'm Testing on iPhone and it needs to work on iPhone and Android, thanks for your help

  • You could try to detect a mobile device by checking the window width (if only the UI depends on it (for small browserwindows it may also be useful to have a "mobile friendly" version). You can use something like window.matchMedia("(max-width: 800px)") for this. However this is not accurate, and it depends on what you want to do with it. You could also try to combine what @JanakPrajapati suggested in combination with a width check (to prevent desktop touch displays to get categorized as mobile) – NickG Jun 04 '20 at 12:40

  • You are assigning the check function to window.isMobile, therefore if you want to call the function, you have to call window.isMobile() instead of just isMobile(). The rest of the code you have should work. – NickG Jun 04 '20 at 12:46

in your question there is not function like isMobile. window.isMobile detect mobile device but isMobile is not function and scope of check variable is limited to that function only

So basically i have created mobileCheck() function having device detection code inside which return true if touch device is there, based on function result true or false you can modify attribute of an anchor tag
