In this SO question details are provided on use of out of box vscode "Timeline view" experience is covered as a way to look at commit history and diffs from a file scope perspective.

Does out of box vscode support exist for gui review of a commit history, i.e. git log, and then diff'ng the contents of it, i.e. git show <commit id>, from a commit scope not Timeline file by file scope or extension marketplace offering such as GitLens, Git History or Git Graph?

  • This seems off-topic for a Stack Overflow question, and is likely better suited as an Issue on the VSCode GitHub repository. – Cory Kramer Aug 25 '20 at 20:43
  • Thanks for feedback and guidance. When i open a new issue in [vscode git repo](https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/new/choose) it says for questions it says for questions to post SO question with [visual-studio-code tag](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/visual-studio-code) which is what i did here. Are you thinking i should delete this SO tagged question and open a new vscode git repo issue as a feature request instead? – myusrn Aug 25 '20 at 21:50
