I ran into some problems I had in downloading the matplotlib using pip.

What happened

  1. At first I downloaded matplotlib through pip without problems.
  2. For some reason, after I downloaded matplotlib, when I tried running a simple line graph code, it wouldn’t display it.
  3. I tried searching up on google for the reasons why it wasn’t working, using the error messages I got as keywords.
  4. One of the advice told me to mess around with the PATH thing and I did, nothing happened.
  5. Another advice I had received told me to download Visual Studio 2019, which I did.
  6. When I tried running the code again, everything worked out fine.
  7. The next day later, after I had turned off my laptop and turned it back on, I ran into another problem where Python wasn’t being recognised on my laptop (almost like I didn’t have Python on it).
  8. I figured it had something to do with me messing around with the PATH thing since that was the only thing I messed with before downloading Visual Studio 2019 (I doubted downloading VS 2019 had anything to do with this).
  9. I tried rewriting the PATH thing with no luck.
  10. I read somewhere (Stack Overflow) that I should uninstall and reinstall Python, which I did (previous one I had was Python 3.8, the one I have now is Python 3.9).
  11. Everything was working fine, but when I had tried to run the line graph code I got this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "C:\Users\bosaw\Documents\python_work\crash_course\part_II\generating_data\examples\mpl_squares.py", line 1, in <module>
    import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'matplotlib'
 12. So when I tried to redownload matplotlib I got the error message below (which is where I am currently stuck at).
C:\Users\bosaw> python -m pip install --user matplotlib

This might be your issue. if after following this post you still have problems then it might be because you have more than one version of python and it is not setup correctly. Run the following command and see if you have more than one python installed. where python (in cmd)
