JPA Multiple Relationships - One Database Column

Question

I have following table structure.

I need to map request_id of Request table and request_id of Function table into User table. Basically I need Request Entity and Set of Function Entities in my User Entity. Relationship nature as follows,

Request Table and User Table --> One to One ( Already done and Working Properly )
User Table and Function Table --> One to Many ( Could not pull this off )

I'm receiving a ClassCastException, Could not undestand why.

Whenever I try to map one to many relationship as below I get the exception.

Note : Tables are in two schemas Schema A --> Database A and Schema B --> Database B

My question is, is it possible to map single column into multiple JPA relationships ? If so what is the correct approach ? Is there any specific reason for exception thrown ?

OK, so it seems that if you make them implement the serializable inteface, then the real problem will be exposed (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4525186/cannot-be-cast-to-java-io-serializable/11192703) and with a new error message it will be more easy to fix — Arthur Klezovich, Nov 06 '21 at 00:03

Either ...

The problem will be fixed.
The real problem will be exposed (example) and with a new error message it will be more easy to fix.

As per the JPA2.1 spec (a very nice bedside reading)

If an entity instance is to be passed by value as a detached object (e.g., through a remote interface), the entity class must implement the Serializable interface.

Since a OneToOne relation is eagerly fetched by default it's gonna result in an attached entity and will give you no errors.
On the other hand, the OneToMany relation is lazily fetched resulting in detached entities therefore giving you the ClassCastException because of the missing Serializable implementation.
