Why does error 'Unable to locate element: {"method":"xpath","selector": ""' even it exist?

Question

I am new to Python and Selenium. I have written code in which a line is resulting in the error Message: no such element: Unable to locate element, even though it exist.

Code Segment:

To click on the element with text as Skip, you can use either of the following Locator Strategies:

Using CSS:

driver.find_element(By.CSS_SELECTOR, "button[title='Skip'][aria-label='Skip'][data-action='skip']").click()

Using XPath:

driver.find_element(By.XPATH, "//button[@title='Skip' and @aria-label='Skip'][@data-action='skip']").click()

Ideally, to click on a clickable element, you need to induce WebDriverWait for the element_to_be_clickable(), and you can use either of the following Locator Strategies:

Using CSS:

WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(EC.element_to_be_clickable((By.CSS_SELECTOR, "button[title='Skip'][aria-label='Skip'][data-action='skip']"))).click()

Using XPath:

WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(EC.element_to_be_clickable((By.XPATH, "//button[@title='Skip' and @aria-label='Skip'][@data-action='skip']"))).click()

Note: You have to add the following imports:

from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import WebDriverWait
from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By
from selenium.webdriver.support import expected_conditions as EC

This could because your web application uses Ajax/JS synchronously and hence need to executed JS code through execute_script execute_script method synchronously Executes JavaScript in the current window/frame. This is a big feature of selenium because javascript can do everything with a website from hitting APIs to playing with live code. – cruisepandey Nov 23 '21 at 07:00
