OSError: No Default Input Device Available Docker on Windows

Question

I am running into an issue with PyAudio/PortAudio that only manifests itself when run on Windows 10 and not on Ubuntu 18.04. I have created a docker image that contains a PyAudio application and a Ubuntu 18.04 environment. When pulling the image and running the following code snippet on Windows 10 I get the following issue:

OSError: No Default Input Device Available

from what I can infer online, the ALSA notifications are merely warnings and can be effectively ignored. However the "OSError: No Default Input Device Available" is application breaking.

What's more I do not experience this problem when running the docker image on my Ubuntu machine. I have also built the docker image on my Windows machine without issue, only to go on to experience this same issue when I run the image. I believe I am running into some OS-based issue regarding Windows that I am unaware of. If anyone has suggestions I am very interested in trying them. Thank you!

Well what I have learned so far is that the issue is related to Docker being unable to access Windows USB devices. There are alternatives for getting around this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1191998/how-can-i-work-with-portaudio-in-wsl-in-windows-10 but I am not sure if I will investigate them deeply — The_Chicken_Lord, May 20 '22 at 22:00
