I need to generate PS (or PDF) files from CAM350 (an application that manage Gerber files) running on Windows 7 x64. From CAM350 there is no way to save PS or PDF files so I use a "Ghostscript PDF printer" (output to ":FILE" port) installed using the driver ghostpdf.inf I've found in the /lib directory of the GS (I have version 9.22 x64) installation directory. I open Gerber files and then I print the file from CAM350 using the Ghostscript PDF printer.

I usually print 348x247mm pages using "custom page size" setting from the Printer Setup dialog at 3600dpi (set using the advanced properties of the Ghostscript printer driver) and I'm satisfied with the output.

Now I need to print 550x420mm pages always at 3600dpi but the .ps file that the printer generates is empty. I've tried many different settings but it is clear that exceeding a certain page size will generate some error that causes the printer to output empty files.

If I set a 600 dpi resolution in the advanced printer options then the printer works, the file is generated, but when I print the page (using my TANTO 6120 fotoplotter) the resolution is not enough and some dimensions of the printed work are not correct.

I've tried to increase the Buffer size using the printer settings in the device and printer page of the Windows setup but it didn't solve the problem. I also tried to edit the .PPD file and increase the FreeVM value from 10.000.000 to 134.000.000 (written without thousand separator) because i see a PPD file from my TANTO 6120 fotoplotter that has this value.

I cannot use TANTO PPD files because they are not compatible with x64 versions of Windows and I cannot find a newer driver.

I need to print PS files from CAM350 and generate .PS files for my Tanto 6120 RIP, if Ghostscript printer has a bug can you please tell me if there is a commercial PS printer that can do the job?

Is there a way to see the GS errors using the Ghostscript PDF printer driver?

Thank you Francesco

  • @KJ thank you. It worked at 2400 dpi and, for the moment, the resolution is fine. I do not understand if my Postscript file is just scaled vectors or has some image based content. I really do not know much about computer graphics, I can just understand the difference between a vector image and a bitmap. I do not understand why GS has a 2Gb limit and if it is possible to upgrade it in some way. By the way the PS file I generated at 2400 dpi is just aprox 4 Mb, very far away from 2 Gb!
