Unable to run Spring application - spring-boot-maven-plugin:2.2.8.RELEASE:run failed: Unsupported class file major version 60

Question

I am unable to run my Spring application with the error

Failed to execute goal org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-maven-plugin:2.2.8.RELEASE:run (default-cli) on project POCApplication: Execution default-cli of goal org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-maven-plugin:2.2.8.RELEASE:run failed: Unsupported class file major version 60

Here is how my pom file looks like
