I have been learning about Operational Transformation. One classic example people always use is Google Doc who has chosen to use operational transformation to propagate changes to the clients.

However, one thing I am very confused about is whether Google Doc preserves user intention or not ? (OR in general, does OT preserves user intention) ?

One past StackOverflow post and one FAQ on OT explain that Google Doc/OT doesn't. (Particularly, in the case of the FAQ on OT, it explains that no OT model can preserve user intention while it can preserve operation intention)

So this gets me kind of confused about what is the difference between user intention and operation intention ? Also, if OT/Google Doc does not preserve intention, won't we have an inconsistency ? (Obviously, this is not the case in Google Doc.)

Some explanation on these two terms would be very helpful as I struggle to find any good examples.
