I am attempting to learn JavaFX and are doing some tinkering with mediaplayer. My program has a simple idea;

A button, that when it is clicked, plays a sound effect. While programming such things, i get a huge error. Sample code:

import javafx.application.Application;
import javafx.scene.Scene;
import javafx.scene.control.Button;
import javafx.stage.Stage;
import javafx.scene.media.Media;
import javafx.scene.media.MediaPlayer;
import javafx.scene.media.*;

public class MyJavaFX extends Application {
    @Override // Override the start method in the Application class
    public void start(Stage primaryStage) {
        // Create a button and place it in the scene
        Button btyay = new Button("Yay!");
        Scene scene = new Scene(btyay, 200, 250);

        // Instantiating Media class
        Media media = new Media("file://C:/Users/myname/Downloads/yay.mp3");

        // Instantiating MediaPlayer class
        MediaPlayer mediaPlayer = new MediaPlayer(media);
        mediaPlayer.play();

        btyay.setOnMouseClicked(e -> {
            mediaPlayer.play();

        });

        primaryStage.setTitle("MyJavaFX"); // Set the stage title
        primaryStage.setScene(scene); // Place the scene in the stage
        primaryStage.show(); // Display the stage

    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        launch(args);
    }
}

The problem is eliminated when i remove the mediaplayer code chunk.

How do I solve this?

  • By the way, if your sound effect is short, then you may want to consider using an `AudioClip` instead of a `MediaPlayer`. – Slaw Feb 28 '23 at 03:20
