So I have these indexed text files with German Characters like ä in them. The characters are getting displayed in the little preview like 'ä' instead of this 'ä'. The Windows search also does not recognize them. enter image description here I also checked the encoding and the file is utf-8. Can someone maybe help me and say how to fix this? We use the windows search and other software and can't find these files. It Is also scanned/OCRed files, when I put a normal utf-8 text file with these letter 'ä' I cant see it normally. But the other text files get also created with utf-8, I selected it as the format when creating these with C# File lib.

I tried to see with notepad++ if the files are really utf-8 and it said they are. I looked at the languages options in Windows and they are all set to German. I tried searching online but windows indexing and oledb are not topics that get covered much.

  • Maybe some similarities to this one? https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46553863/utf-8-encoded-ms-access-table – tgolisch Mar 23 '23 at 19:14
