ExifTool is a scripting program (cmd and GUI) that uses custom metalanguage with its own syntax and commands. There are tens of questions about ExifTool on this site already, with valid answers. Thus, the question, just like the others about that tool, belongs here.

In ExifTool commands, what characters should I use to escape a specific text? For example, for -Author= tag, what characters should I use to escape spaces and an underscore within the text string I provide as the value?

  • @GillesQuenot People are asking questions on ExifTool syntax here left and right. That's exactly that. No, it wouldn't cause hardly anyone uses this plug-in and definitely not enough phootgraphers tweak it to that degree to help. My question pertains to syntax of ExifTool and 'Author' tag - people have been asking with success about that tool and various tags, including ones for PDF here - without any issues. Shall I show you examples? But suddenly when I say the file type is photo it's somehow offtopic. It's not, some exif tags works same way for various file types. – Piotr Chylarecki Aug 24 '23 at 23:31
  • Other questions ON THIS SE pertaining other tags on ExifTool - no1 is calling them offtopic and non-programming, somehow.
