I searched on net (including stackoverflow) for answers, but all of them simply go above my head. Following is my pom.xml file

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Could someone please help me understand in short and simple words:

  1. what I am doing wrong
  2. how to resolve the above issue

  • Please look at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/25369903/java-lang-illegalstateexception-could-not-find-backup-for-factory-javax-faces for the answer – Python_user Aug 27 '23 at 18:02
  • You need the implementation of JSF. You only imported the API. https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.glassfish/javax.faces – cela Aug 27 '23 at 18:03

You only included the API for JSF. You need to also import the implementation. The most common one being Mojarra.

In your pom.xml:

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.glassfish</groupId>
    <artifactId>javax.faces</artifactId>
    <version>2.4.0</version>
</dependency>

  • Hi @cela , yes this is correct. I did discover this in anotehr SO question (whose reference I have mentioned in a comment to the post). But, I have marked your answer as correct. However, after resolving this problem, I am still facing another exception: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76988382/exception-while-deploying-jsf-2-3-to-tomcat-9 Is it possible for you to take a look at it? – Python_user Aug 27 '23 at 18:11
  • @Python_user I added an answer, let me know if you are still having issues on the other question. – cela Aug 27 '23 at 18:26
  • Thanks for the response . Yes, I am still facing issue on the other question ... Have mentioned it in a comment there – Python_user Aug 27 '23 at 18:30
