BlogML is an open XML standard for describing the contents of a blog.

BlogML was conceived in August 2005 as an format for standardizing the way to describe the contents of blogs. Having a common standard helps with interoperability of data between blogging engines and facilitates tasks such as:

  • importing blogml formatted data into a blog engine
  • exporting blog data to blogml format
  • validating and verifying the structure of blogml formatted content

There is a discussion list for talking about the BlogML spec which can be found here.

BlogML has been formally adopted as the way to import and export content by several leading blog engines such as OrchardCMS, SubText, Community Server, DasBlog, Graffiti, FunnelWeb and several others.
