I am a mechanical engineer that has been programming for many years but recently been starting on actual work projects using Python. Some things work and some do not. I still use Netbeans and a bunch of VBA.

For years I was working mostly with machine interfaces, PLC's and G Code. I am with a great surveying company that is on the cutting edge of their field with technology.
