Currently I code for research purposes.
I returned to school as an adult with the goal of a PhD in economics. I now hold a BA in Economics and Mathematics and an MA in economics from Boston University. I also minored in Computer Science and Physics (with a focus on computational physics).
Before returning to school, I owned several small businesses where I coded as a necessity.
Since I am not a software engineer (and have no aspirations to be one,) I am almost always concerned about doing the job quick-and-dirty.
I have experience coding in C++, C, Fortran, Assembly, Python, Julia, Octave (Matlab), PHP, Java, Visual Basic, JavaScript, Flash Actionscript, and more. But I've forgotten a lot over the years and have not necessarily kept current.
I am most at home with C++ and use it whenever possible.
