Currently, I am a self-taught Software Engineer. I am a student of AS in Computer Science. Still studying to build my skills and trying to become a problem solver in any case. This was likely the best advice I was given at the beginning of my learning journey. When I first started out, it was overwhelming. Did I want to do front-end, back-end, something in between? Which languages are best for which part of the stack? I spent a few weeks reading and doing tutorials in different languages to test the waters. I was wasting time and confusing myself. a self-taught software engineer, or at least didn’t major in CS as an undergrad. And he’s pretty clearly addled; on top of his “women are dumb and don’t like the computers” manifesto (I’m paraphrasing a bit), he wrote an insane tweet about the Ku Klux Klan being successful because they have really cool, Dungeons & Dragons-like titles. If he can do it, so can you. Just don’t be like him.

Self-taught developers of course normally don’t start at Google. They learn the ropes elsewhere, then move (if they can and want to).
