I was a former agricultural engineer and amateur soccer coach and now I teach physics, science, computing and robotics in high school.

My own college experience with Maple and C++, undergrad experience with C++, Fortran and Excel, and professional experience with Excel are my main qualifications to be a tech teacher.

I remember nothing concrete of those early languages, but I have made many useful Excel tools for my colleagues and was able to pick up Python and Java without fear.

I actually wish that I had remembered more of how to create C++ and Fortran applications while I was an engineer, but I didn't have the time (everything was billable hours) to learn them again, so I spent a LOT of time cobbling Excel tools together. It worked but always felt like a hack.

I want to make sure that my students get a good understanding of the underlying and universal tools needed to program so they don't go through the same issues. So we spend a fair amount of time on the command line and in GitHub, as well as learning programming concepts through Java.
