I've spent a couple of decades exploring easy-to-use information tools and helping organizations embrace disruptive technologies.

I am a co-founder of GitMachines, a start-up whose mission is remove the compliance and administrative burdens and barriers innovators face bringing new technology into security-concerned organization. We are publishing virtual machines pre-configured to meet government guidance. GitMachines is a winner of the 2013 John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Knight News Challenge.

In the mid-2000's I moved to Washington, DC, to create the Sunlight Labs, the technical arm of the Sunlight Foundation and became involved in open government and open data. I briefly worked as CTO at United Cerebral Palsy and learned about assistive technologies.

In 2010, I joined the Federal Communications Commission and was appointed one of the first Chief Data Officers in Federal Government. I worked on creating APIs at the FCC to improve how the FCC shared data and lower the burden on data was collected, too. I was a member of the White House Task Force on Smart Disclosure exploring machine-readable data as a policy tool and citizen aid. According to FierceGovernmentIT's 2012 Fierce15 profile, "what sets Elin apart from others in similar positions is his tireless pursuit of data that is truly usable."

I hav a Masters in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University's Tisch School of Art.
