I am an engineering professor with some ideas for some useful web sites. I'm most used to programming realtime applications in C++ or Matlab, so am having some fun learning how web programming works. I've opted to start with Ruby on Rails + JavaScript, as I want to write some applications that have a database on the back end and make use of external APIs (eg, Google Maps) on the front end.
