My first introduction to computers was when I became a mainframe assembly language programmer working for the government in 1972. I subsequently left the Civil Service and after several years doing non-computer stuff (during which time, as a hobby, I became proficient at Z80 assembly code) I studied electrical and electronic engineering and became a computer engineer during the Windows 3.0. era. I initially worked on SCO Unix systems and taught myself shell scripting in order to produce test routines to make my job easier. Over subsequent years I became a Windows system administrator and ever since, whenever I've thought "I think this process could be automated", I've tried, with reasonable success, to teach myself the necessary skills.
Now that I'm retired, I want to keep the old grey matter active, so I'm currently dabbling in VBA, PHP, javascript, HTML, etc., etc.
When I'm able, I like to help people in whatever way I can.
